Meet the Team

Xuming Huang & Anisha Madivala

Xuming Huang

I am a Computer Science undergraduate at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where I focus on the intersection of Artificial Intelligence, Systems, and Security.

My research journey began with a deep curiosity about how we can build more reliable and secure digital infrastructure. Currently, I am advised by Professor Remzi Arpaci-Dusseau at The ADvanced Systems Laboratory (ADSL), where I work on LinuxGuard—a project that uses Large Language Models to convert kernel bug fixes into static analyzers.

Why Code and Power?

I chose to take LIS 500 because as I develop tools that automate security analysis, I must consider who these tools protect and what biases might be encoded into the LLMs I utilize. Understanding "Code and Power" is essential for any modern engineer who wishes to build technology that serves humanity equitably.

Anisha Madivala

Hello! I am a current sophomore at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, studying Information Science with a minor in Data Science. I am interested in pursuing a career in cybersecurity, business, or law. My academic journey is driven by curiosity about how legal frameworks keep pace with an ever-changing technological landscape. I am particularly interested in Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) strategies that use data-driven insights to address modern technology or security challenges.

Why LIS 500?

I decided to take LIS 500 because I am interested in learning more about how racial bias is embedded in the technology world today and what we, as individuals, can do to mitigate this bias. I believe that building secure, ethical systems requires a deep understanding of these sociotechnical challenges to succeed in the workplace. I also found this course especially appealing because it fulfills both a major and an ethnic studies requirement for graduation.

My Favorite Tech Thing

I love cameras! I’m huge on photography, so I love taking pictures on a digital camera, wherever I go!
